I’m sure many of you have heard of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
SEO is all about getting your website or product/services to appear higher and more prominently than the competition.
This task usually difficult because a company called Bloggs (bloggs.com) is selling widgets; if Bloggs website was called widgets.com the problem would be simpler.
This is, of course, where councils win. Because the village/parish of Dun Wapping has the URL dunwapping.org.uk or dunwappingparishcouncil.org.uk the battle is over, there’s no more you can do.
If the website complies with W3C standards and has a wealth of local content it’s just a matter of time before the website makes its way to the top of the first page of Google but, you may never make it to the first place. Large and long established County and District Council websites and major directories may keep you off the top position.
