An EPC is an Energy Performance Certificate which provides an energy rating for a building based on the performance potential of the building and its services.
The energy rating on the certificate reflects the intrinsic energy performance standard of the building relative to a benchmark which can then be used to make comparisons with comparable properties. It is accompanied by a report which provides recommendations on how the energy performance of the building could be improved, together with an indication of the payback period.
An EPC is required for a building when it is constructed, sold or let.
Therefore, if you own a building which is let for a wedding, party or other social or business activity, that is the trigger for a commercial EPC.
Once a certificate is produced it is valid for ten years.
